Though Nintendo are yet to reveal which games will be available upon launch there is plenty going on in the grapevine as well as some breadcrumbs left by Nintendo themselves. We expect the first official news will come in an upcoming event to be held in January.
It is expected there will be a new Mario game that is likely to be involved in the initial console release. It will be available in all territories. It is rumoured the game will have a 3D open world to explore before entering specific sections with restricted movement. There will also be a co-op option for friends to enjoy the adventure together.
Splatoon was part of the release video and looks like it will be Nintendo’s attempt at competitive gaming. We don’t think this will be a brand-new game for the Nintendo Switch but will most likely include more online content including maps and weapons.
One of the most exciting elements of the launch video was what looked like Skyrim. The huge open world game is one of the type of games that has never made it across to Nintendo. The game will likely have MOD support and will be ported from the recent special edition re-release.
For those waiting for the new Zelda game called Breath of the Wild there is bad news. It will not be available by launch and is likely to be pushed back. Fans of the franchise will not be surprised as this is a common occurrence with Link and his friends.
The release games will be of top priority for Nintendo due to it being so poor for the Wii U. It was one of the reasons why that console did so poorly. They will be hoping they will have games not only ready for release but to the highest quality.
