The word of 2016 might be Trump or Brexit, but 2017 will be Switch! That is because this is the year a new type of gaming is introduced in the form of the Nintendo Switch. It was first announced in October 2016 and ever since then we at Lets Nintendo Switch have been frothing at the mouth like a Bowser hungry for a Mario. (Mario for Peach seemed inappropriate).
There has already been plenty of rumours flying around, stoked by the video Nintendo released showing glimpses of possible titles on the new console. A gaming journalist called Laura Kate Dale, who has been reliable in the past, claimed on twitter it is 100%, that Legend of Zelda’s new game, Breath of Wild will be a launch title for the Switch. This was only in relation to the North American market though, so if you are in Europe you may have to wait a little longer still.
Mario Kart is a franchise likely to appear, but like Splatoon and NBA 2k17 featured in the video promo, it might just be ported across. There is of course room however for new characters and tracks to be added to any potential Switch version.
One game that won’t be making an appearance is Mass Effect which developers Bioware have ruled out for a Nintendo version, (for now). "We’re not planning on it," a Bioware source said. "If the Switch launches and everyone’s just yammering for Mass Effect, who knows. We never want to close doors like that."
One new bit of news to welcome in 2017 was the UK prices being leaked after the retailer Argos uploaded it by accident. The flash page which has been taken down had a price of £299.99. This might not be the final price however as Argos themselves said that the price could change. Reports have suggested that it could be as low as £199.99.
Whatever they decide they should make sure it is not competing with the PS4 or XBOX 1. With much of the revenue now made in games and downloads rather than console sales, it is important that Nintendo get the price right to get it in as most hands as possible.
January 17th is the official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch and despite an appearance on Jimmy Fallon and a promo video it is expected to be far more extensively scrutinise this month. March is the touted release date.
Remember that Lets Nintendo Switch is the number one place to find out the latest news and gossip from the Nintendo Switch. So keep coming back when you need your fix.
